This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Giterra collects when you use our group-travel companion application and related services (the "Service"), how we use it, and the choices and rights you have. We aim to collect only what we need to make group travel easier.

1. Data We Collect

We collect data you give us, data created as you use the Service, and a limited amount of technical data:

  • Account data — your name or display name, email address, and authentication identifiers used to sign you in.
  • Trip content — the information you add to trips: expenses and how they are split, settlements, messages, photos and files, travel documents, notes, and itinerary entries.
  • Location data — when you choose to share your location with a trip, your approximate or real-time position for the duration you select. Location sharing is off until you turn it on.
  • Purchase data — your premium-trip purchases and the identifiers needed to recognise which trips have premium unlocked. Payment-card details are handled by the app store, not by us.
  • Technical and usage data — device and app version, language, and diagnostic information such as crash reports, used to keep the Service working.

2. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to provide and operate the Service — to run your trips, calculate shared balances and settlements, store and share content with the members you choose, deliver notifications, and enable location sharing when you turn it on. We also use it to maintain security, prevent abuse, provide support, comply with legal obligations, and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use the content of your trips for advertising.

3. Legal Bases for Processing

Where data-protection law such as the GDPR applies, we process personal data on these bases: performance of a contract, to provide the Service you have signed up for; consent, for optional features such as location sharing, which you can withdraw at any time; legitimate interests, such as keeping the Service secure and improving it, balanced against your rights; and legal obligation, where we must retain or disclose data to comply with the law.

4. How We Share Data

We share data only as needed to run the Service. Content you add to a trip is shared with the other members of that trip, as directed by you. We share data with service providers who process it on our behalf under appropriate safeguards — for example mapping and location providers, payment and in-app-purchase processors, authentication and cloud-infrastructure providers, analytics and crash-reporting providers, and email and notification-delivery providers. We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public, and we may transfer data as part of a business reorganisation. We describe providers by category rather than by name, and the specific providers we use may change over time.

5. Data Retention

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and for as long as needed to provide the Service. When you delete content or close your account, we delete or anonymise the associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Limited copies may persist in routine backups for a short time before they are overwritten. Location data is short-lived and is removed when a sharing period ends.

6. Security

We use technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and storage with reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security; please use a strong, unique password and keep your credentials confidential.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict or object to certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to receive a copy of your data in a portable format. You can exercise many of these rights directly in the app by editing or deleting your content and account. For other requests, contact us using the details below; we will respond as required by applicable law. You also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.

8. Account Deletion

You can delete your Giterra account and the personal data associated with it at any time, in either of two ways:

  • In the app — open your profile and choose Delete Account.
  • By email — send a deletion request to support@gi-terra.com from the email address linked to your account. We will verify the request and permanently delete your account.

Deleting your account permanently removes your account data and the personal data associated with it, including the trip content you own, expenses, documents, and location data. Limited data may be retained where the law requires it, or persist briefly in routine backups, as described in Section 5 (Data Retention).

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country, if higher), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

10. International Transfers

We and our service providers may process personal data in countries other than where you live. Where we transfer data across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards — such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses — to protect it in line with this Policy and applicable law.

11. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Our websites use a small number of cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to make the site work and to understand, in aggregate, how it is used. The mobile app does not use advertising cookies. Where required, we ask for your consent before using non-essential technologies, and you can control cookies through your browser settings.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes we will update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you within the Service. Please review this Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your data.

13. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Policy or how we handle your personal data, contact us at support@gi-terra.com.
